Biodiversity Fair on March 17- 19, 2020
Greetings of the Day!
The Biodiversity Club, Serampore College is going to organize a Three day long “Biodiversity Fair” cum workshop on “Biodiversity Awareness” from 17th to 19th March 2020 at the college premises in collaboration with the West Bengal Biodiversity Board (WBBB) and Nature Environment and Wildlife Society (NEWS).
The aim of the workshop is to understand urban environmental problems particularly in relation to biodiversity and natural resource management. We also aim to discuss the catalysing forces behind urban changes in the biodiversity and the conflicts between various socio-economic strata of society in relation to this. The prime question is – Can sustainability be achieved via urban, ecological and economic planning?
The workshop and the fair shall follow various United Nation (UN) themes, viz. Marine Diversity (2018), Responsible Tourism (2017), Soils (2015), Islands (2014), Food Security & Conservation (2013), Green Economies (2012), Conservation of Indian Forests (2011), Indian Wildlife (2010), Carbon Reversal Movement (2009) and Biodiversity Conservation (2008). The fair and the workshop will be relevant and engrossing by participation from diverse groups of participants, right from tiny tots to social entrepreneurs. The carefully curated and captioned photography exhibition will share with the visitors some of the finest moments in the wilderness and urban environment, captured by professional and budding photographers.
The program shall involve Drawing competition, Debate, Photographic competition, Film shows (on United Nation themes), Quiz for the school students as well as Lectures, Workshops: classroom and field session for the teachers (school and colleges), students (Colleges: UG and PG) and research scholars. Sessions are likely to be conducted by eminent researchers, Green Entrepreneurs, Conservation Photographers, Artists, Environmentalists, Activists and Scientists to ensure that the theme is vigorously discussed and the structured workshops will encourage a love for the outdoors, discussions and learning through hands-on experiences. There will be variety of stalls displaying eco-friendly products and services.
