Message of the H. O. D.

Debnath PalThe Department of Sanskrit in Serampore College began its journey more than one hundred years ago when Sanskrit education was confined within the traditional learning centers. During this long journey, it has remarkably contributed to the growth and development of Sanskrit teaching and research and produced many Sanskrit scholars fulfilling the expectations of the founders of this college and enriching our cultural heritage. Although courses in classical languages do not draw many learners in todays materialistic society, many young souls from different parts of Hooghly and adjacent districts still feel the magnetic attraction of this department and keep its flag high. I feel proud to be a part of this seat of learning and wish its steady growth and prosperity.
