Thanksgiving service for the restoration and renovation of the Main Building

Dear friends,

On this memorable day, I greet you all in the name of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

This historic Main Building construction was started by the first Principal and founder of the College in the year 1820. It has stood tall for the last two hundred years. As it has become aged and also continuously used for various purposes, this historic building is in dilapidated condition. I was informed that all the former Principals tried their best to restore and renovate it. After many years of long waiting, by the grace and God and support and cooperation from all corners, the dream is coming into a reality. I feel privilege and honour that in my tenure as the 22nd Principal of this historic institution, the dreams of all the Serampore College Community, the alumni and all the people who admired Rev. Dr. William Carey around the globe is fulfilled. I thank God all the guidance that I have received.

I am extremely happy and grateful to inform you that on 3rd December last year, I signed the Work Order for the Restoration and Renovation of the Main Building, and handed it over to the selected contractor in presence of the members of the Building Committee whoever was present in the campus. I want to point out that we have followed the e-tendering process and all the guidelines of the Government of West Bengal. Today is a Historic Day and a remarkable milestone.

I am very grateful to the honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee, the former MIC, Higher Education Dr. Partha Chatterjee, and the present MIC Shri. Bratya Basu and all the officials from the Higher Education Department and Finance Department, Government of West Bengal who were involved in sanctioning the needed funds for the Restoration and Renovation Project of the Main Building.

I also thank the administrative officials of the Faculty of ASC, Dr. Biddyut Banerjee, Vice-Principal, Mr. Jisnu Dasgupta, Bursar, Dr. Saradya Ray, Secretary, and also to Dr. Bhaskar Chowdhury, Department of Bengali for their tireless efforts for the success of this project. I extend my gratitude to all my colleagues, faculty members, non-teaching staff, students and alumni for their support and cooperation.

I take this opportunity to thank Mrs. Gopa Sen, the Architect Consultant who worked very hard for preparing the DPR. Because of her expertise, the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal accepted the said DPR.

Let us join hands and continue to work for this historic institution by

“Expecting Great things from God and Let’s Attempt Great Things for God”.

Thank You.
